DutiesDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Directs, plans and organizes aircraft crash, rescue, structural fire protection, fire prevention, ground and explosive safety activities. Inspects base facilities and contract jobs in progress to evaluate compliance with fire prevention\/protection regulations, directives and instructions. Conducts classes and lectures in fire prevention\/protection. Reviews construction and alteration plans and recommends changes to comply with fire prevention requirements. Conducts fire investigations of reported incidents, obtains and analyzes facts to establish cause (i.e., human error, mechanical failure, etc.), and arrives at the best method to prevent recurrences. Responsible for records, reports, correspondence and administrative details associated with the total fire protection program. Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsMINIMUM GRADE: E-1 MAXIMUM GRADE: E-7THIS MUST BE INCLUDED SOMEWHERE ON YOUR RESUMEMILITARY COMPATIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidate is required to be assigned to a compatible military unit and MOS\/AFSC in accordance with TPR 303. AFSC: 3E7XXMeeting the months of experience requirement will not by itself be accepted as proof of qualification. Quality, type, and scope of experience or education must be demonstrated to show that applicant is fully qualified to perform duties at the grade level announced.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Experience, education or training that demonstrated the ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates the ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position.REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience, education, or training controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade. Have experience in rescue operations; experience in detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; experience in operation of fire communications equipment; experience in controlling hazardous materials incidents; and, developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Resume must reflect applicable experience. Knowledge of the primary fire protection operation through on-the-spot observation, inspections, reports, etc.Skill in Conducting fire investigations of reported incidents, obtain and analyze facts to establish cause (i.e., human error, mechanical failure, etc.), and arrive at the best method to prevent recurrences.Ability to direct, plan and organize aircraft crash, rescue, structural fire protection, fire prevention, ground and explosive safety activities.Ability to understand construction and alteration plans and recommend changes to comply with fire prevention requirements.SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE FOR GS-05 AND BELOW: Appropriate firefighter training may be substituted for experience on a month-for-month basis. Firefighter training obtained as part of a high school curriculum may be substituted for the six months of general experience required for GS-3. Successful completion of a two year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or other related fields of study is qualifying for GS-4. Successful completion of a four-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study is qualifying for GS-5.MILITARY REQUIREMENTS Military skill set is determined by AFSC\/MOS requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC\/MOS in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain\/maintain all requirements of the AFSC\/MOS. Specific requirements are found in: references listed below, NGB Compatibility tables and your local Personnel section.For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
